Job Description: Purpose of Position
The Communications and Marketing Specialist supports the Ogden College of Science and Engineering (OCSE) in communications, marketing, recruiting and retention initiatives, and planning and coordinating a variety of events. The Communications and Marketing Specialist performs a variety of professional duties requiring a high degree of initiative, accuracy, judgment, knowledge, and discretion. This position reports to the Associate Dean.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
- Create and disseminate communications from the OCSE Deans office to college Department Heads/Chairs, Directors, faculty, students, and the broader campus and community
- Design and operationalize OCSE marketing campaigns and resources
- Develop materials for OCSE recruiting and retention initiatives
- Develop and implement OCSE social media campaigns and manage social media sites
- Design and manage content for OCSE web pages (www.wku.edu/ogden)
- Create content for letters, emails, press releases, newsletters, speeches, remarks, welcomes, ribbon cuttings, etc. on behalf of the OCSE Dean & Associate Deans
- Solicit, edit, and distribute OCSE news to the WKU community and beyond in coordination with WKU Communications and Marketing staff
- Maintain list of outreach contacts in the local STEM education community
- Serve as the OCSE liaison to WKU Communications and Marketing
- Plan, oversee and coordinate OCSE Functions and Events to include:
- Securing venues
- Ordering food and supplies
- Recruiting volunteers

- Ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize work activities and assignments to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in meeting required deadlines (i.e. successful project management)
- Possess strong interpersonal communication skills with an ability to work with a wide spectrum of individuals in a diverse setting
- Possess excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills
- Possess computer literacy and proficiency to include Microsoft Office Suite and multiple social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
- Possess proficiency in communication and marketing software (e.g. Adobe Acrobat, photo editing software, publishing tools, infographic tools, etc.)
- Capacity to work in a busy environment with frequent interruption
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
Job Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
- At least two years related experience
Additional Information:Salary Grade: 107 Salary Range: $40,000 - $42,000
