The Drake University Office of University Communications and Marketing is searching for an Associate Director of Marketing to help support and enhance the University's alumni relations and development arm. The Associate Director works closely with the University Advancement team to develop and implement marketing strategies that are audience-centered, data-driven, and increasingly digital-first. This role works with an in-house team and several agencies and sub-contractors, and may also supervise student interns. A successful applicant will be analytical, creative, collaborative, consultative, organized, detail-oriented, well-versed on digital and social media, and committed to the University's mission. Professional experience working within a multi-faceted and/or nonprofit organization would be helpful; higher education experience preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
Serve as UCM lead for University Advancement, and provide direct counsel and support to two primary teams within UA: Development and Alumni Relations. Define communications and marketing objectives in collaboration with Advancement colleagues, and develop and manage plans to meet these objectives; strategies should be data-informed and also digital-first, whenever feasible and appropriate. Evaluate and assess the strategic value of emerging communication tools.
Manage development and implementation of effective communication tactics that exemplify the Drake brand, connect well with target audience(s), and help achieve measurable outcomes, such as increasing awareness, shaping attitudes, or spurring people to action. This work will involve writing, editing and/or proofreading content, and also partnering with Brand Integration colleagues within University Communications and Marketing, and/or with external contractors. Manage all assigned projects to ensure work is completed on time, on budget, and to high standards of quality.
Serve as managing editor of Blue, the University's alumni insider. Manage all aspects of production, from brainstorming and content development to layout/design and distribution/posting. Analyze data following the launch of each issue in order to continuously improve the impact of this digital publication.
Maintain a master schedule of communication touches for targeted audience(s) and other administrative responsibilities including project coordination and management. Serve as day-to-day contact for Advancement.
Manage assigned section(s) of the UCM budget. Strive to efficiently steward University resources.
Supervise student workers, consultants, subcontractors and other part-time, short-term staff, as necessary.
