Position Overview: The Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing's priority is to tell the story of Wyoming Seminary, promoting the brand, experience, values, and mission of our School. This role is responsible for enhancing the regional, national, and international profile of Sem by developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy. The Director reports to the Head of School, serves on the Senior Leadership Team, works closely with our admissions and advancement teams, and collaboratively across all departments, to attract and engage prospective families, alumni, and the larger Sem community.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
In conjunction with our Strategic Plan, develop and implement a strategic marketing plan, as well as evaluate and update Sem’s brand and identity in the independent school market.
Collaborate primarily with the Admissions and Advancement to promote the experience and the mission of Wyoming Seminary.
Partner with the Head of School on strategic initiatives designed to identify and enhance Sem’s reputation, identity, and core values.
Marketing and Brand Management
Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for the School.
Oversee the development of marketing materials, including digital and print, website content, and promotional pieces for school fairs and visits.
Manage and maintain the school’s brand, including logos, seals, and secondary marks, providing guidance on their appropriate usage.
Ensure consistent and strategic messaging across all platforms, materials, and departments.
Content Strategy and Creation
Maintain and execute an editorial calendar that aligns with departmental and institutional goals.
Proactively source content by engaging with faculty, students, parents, and alumni to highlight school happenings and individual profiles.
Supervise the production of the Wyoming Seminary Journal, ensuring balanced and timely representation in collaboration with the Advancement team.
Provide editorial and writing support for community newsletters and other communication channels.
CommunicationsManagement
Oversee internal and external communications to ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
Manage crisis communications, media relations, and public relations efforts to maintain the school’s reputation.
Regularly update and maintain all communication vehicles, including email, website, and social media platforms.
Create and implement metrics to assess the success of communication strategies.
Oversee the Communications team as well as outsourced partners as necessary.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
7+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related leadership role; experience in education preferred.
Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic marketing and communication plans.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a keen eye for detail.
Experience managing brand identity and ensuring consistent messaging.
Proficiency in digital marketing tools, content management systems, and social media platforms.
Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
