Job Summary:
The Senior Marketing & Communication Specialist is responsible for advancing institutional strategy and strengthening the reputation and visibility of TCU and the assigned college(s) or unit(s). This position ensures consistent alignment with university priorities, amplifies TCU’s brand reputation and serves as a strategic connector of interdisciplinary, campus wide and cross-unit communications. The senior specialist plays a lead role in identifying and producing high-impact content that contributes to publicizing and marketing reputation-defining people, events and activities that support TCU and the assigned college or unit.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Serves as a central communications representative assigned to execute institutional marketing and communications strategies, ensuring consistent voice, message and alignment of shared priorities of TCU and the assigned colleges or units, including the vision and voice of the dean/college and the university. 2. Acts as a mentor for other Marketing and Communication Specialists by providing support and guidance as requested. Helps train new Marketing and Communication Specialists on TCU marketing and communication efforts and process. 3. Creates and implements strategic marketing and communication plans to advance the university and any assigned colleges or units in alignment with university priorities and initiatives; applies metrics to assure ongoing success. 4. Identifies and develops reputation-defining stories, research, programs and people that align with TCU’s strategic pillars in direct collaboration with the central communication team to ensure unified storytelling efforts for both the university and any assigned colleges or units. 5. Oversees assigned college or unit digital communications and manages assigned social media channels and websites for greater visibility and impact. 6. Provides proactive media relations support for the university and any assigned colleges and units working under the direction of the university’s media relations team. Supports major events, including crises and significant institutional occasions, as appropriate. 7. Assists in the management of assigned faculty ExpertFile profiles, pitches experts to media and ensures policy alignment by escorting media while on campus, including assigned events and commencement ceremonies. 8. Coordinates marketing collateral development (e.g. publications, ads, reports) with central creative and editorial teams for both assigned colleges or units and institutional use. 9. Attends all Marketing and Communication related meetings and any other meetings needed to advance the university and/or any assigned colleges or units. 10. Supports institutional storytelling through cross-discipline collaboration, ensuring that assigned college or unit-level narratives contribute to TCU’s broader strategic objectives and national brand position. 11. Collaborates in editing materials, creating assigned content, and supporting others as assigned. 12. Serves as a backup to the Assistant Director of Communications, as needed. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, strategic communications, advertising, journalism or related • 4 years in communications, marketing, public or media relations, journalism or related environment
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Experience in higher education communications and website management. • Experience in media relations
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite • Experience using web content management systems
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Excellent writing and editing skills, including AP Style. • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • Knowledge of working in an academic setting. • Knowledge of digital technologies and best practices and utilization of social media/website for dissemination of information. • Skills in photography and videography. • Knowledge of customer service techniques. • Knowledge of graphic design and website content strategy. • Skill using Adobe Creative Suite and WordPress or other web content management systems. • Skill in managing social media platforms for paid owned and earned content. • Ability to manage details of a project. • Ability to integrate digital communications and marketing. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

Work Environment:
