General Summary Reporting to the Dean, the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for The Theatre School at DePaul University is responsible for promoting the image and activities of The Theatre School on a local, national, international, and institutional level. Oversees promotion of The Theatre School, the school's production season, and special events. Manages the school's public relations, media relations, and brand. Participates in strategy and activities for alumni relations, admissions, and development. Supervises the Manager of Events/Public Relations, the Manager of Audience Services, and Group Sales Manager/Marketing Assistant.
Responsibilities & Duties - Develop and implement annual Marketing/Public Relations Plan to promote attendance and generate earned income through subscriptions and single tickets sales to public performances of The Theatre School, including creating promotional materials and advertising, developing co-promotional partnerships with community institutions, businesses, and campus partners.
- Develop strategy to enhance the audience and customer service experience.
- Manage and promote The Theatre School's brand identity as a school and as part of DePaul University, including its mission, values and strategic goals, through communications strategies supporting public performance/event promotion, recruitment, development, alumni relations and other areas as identified.
- Generate regular media placements for performances, special events and The Theatre School.
- Manage the school's internal and external communications strategies and maintain marketing and public relations contact lists.
- Develop and maintain The Theatre School's online presence, to include maintaining/enhancing its website and social media presence.
- Participate in the planning/promotion of special events, such as fundraising and development events, alumni events, and the New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles Graduate Showcases and related events, and others as assigned.
- Represent The Theatre School in the community via memberships/committee work with professional/industry organizations, and coordination with other DePaul departments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience - Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications or related field.
Preferred Requirements - 3 to 5 years of professional experience in marketing communications, media relations and special events planning.
- Management and supervisory experience.
Managerial Responsibilities - Supervises the Manager of Audience Services, the Manger of Special Events and Public Relations, the Group Sales Representative/Marketing Assistant.
- Teach and supervise individual students on a project-by-project basis in the context of the Theatre Management production practice courses in marketing and company management.
Financial Responsibilities - Responsible for accounting of Marketing, Public Relations and Special Events budgets totaling approximately $150,000+.
Other Skills & Abilities Required - Expertise in marketing communications theory and current best practices, as demonstrated through a portfolio of quality marketing campaigns for which the candidate was primarily responsible.
- Ability to participate fully as a member of The Theatre School's administrative staff, maintain a good working relationship with all University personnel, and serve as a role model for the students in their training.
- Detail-oriented with excellent planning, organizational and coordination skills.
- Friendly, proactive communication style, a pleasant and enthusiastic attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure, respond positively and diplomatically to deadlines and crises in a leadership role.
- Professional communications skills, both written and oral.
- Professional writing and editing skills; ability to be detail-oriented and accurate in all communication.
- Knowledge of newspapers, media, journalistic principles and public relations practices.
- Proficiency using the Adobe Creatibe Suite; familiarity with HTML coding and e-mail/Web technology.
- Experienced at generating marketing materials, including ability to manage creative graphic design and utilize effective printing technology.
- Experience with digital photography and manipulation of images using Adobe Photoshop.
- Demonstrates understanding of and talent for basic graphic design.
