The Construction Management Department at the University of Washington seeks applications for one part-time, non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor.
This is a 9-month (Sept 16th - June 15th) multi-year appointment with an anticipated start date of September 2025. This position is for a three-year term with the possibility of renewals. This is expected to be a part-time position with a 0.5-0.8 FTE (depending on enrollment and number of offerings of communications and/or marketing classes). The position carries full fringe benefits and is promotable. This position, however, is not eligible for visa or permanent residence sponsorship.

Our department resides in the College of Built Environments and enrolls over 200 students, divided between undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. The department has twelve full-time faculty, and is supported by nearly two dozen part-time affiliate faculty. Our educational offerings include a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (with an Architecture dual degree option), an in-person Master of Science in Construction Management, an online Master of Science in Construction Management (co-offering with Civil and Environmental Engineering), and a college-wide Ph.D. in the Built Environment; we also offer a minor in Construction Management for students in other majors, and a certificate of construction management in partnership with UW Continuum College. Our instruction duties strongly support an ACCE-accredited Bachelor of Science degree, which carries an outstanding reputation within the industry for developing graduates ready for entry-level management positions. The undergraduate program focuses on building construction, but we also offer elective courses on heavy civil construction. The selected applicant will have a mix of expectations as follows:

·To support the department?s instructional mission within the scope of faculty teaching as outlined in the Faculty Code Section 24-32C, including
oBy effectively providing undergraduate and graduate instruction for matriculated students, as well as special training or continuing education in various teaching formats and media.
oBy participating in academic advising and counseling, whether this takes the form of assisting students to select courses or discussing the students' long-range goals.
·To perform appropriate departmental and university service and to serve on graduate committees.
Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to:
·experience teaching courses in Construction Management or related fields at the higher education level;
·demonstrated background in and prepared to teach construction-focused courses on Communication, Collaboration, Firm Management, Business Development, and Marketing;
·evidence of effective communication and incorporating information technology into the classroom;
·progressively responsible industry experience and knowledge of North American construction practices.
Increasingly throughout their career at UW, the successful candidate would be expected to perform appropriate departmental and university service, serve on committees, and encourage diverse views on emergent construction management topics. Participation in service activities that support students and raise the department?s instructional reputation will be valued. The anticipated start date for this position is September 2025.
The individual in this position will be expected to be on campus during the academic year to instruct students in accordance with the department?s mission. Our department has a full-time annual equivalent teaching load of thirty credits over three quarters. The selected individual?s part-time teaching load will be adjusted accordingly to take into consideration the number of courses, the number of course credits, class size, and service obligations. Expected service obligations may include advising students, assisting with student organizations and competitions, interacting with the construction industry, and participating in service activities that support students in the department and raise the department?s reputation with local, regional, national, and global entities. Salary will be based on a nine-month academic year appointment and will be adjusted to the selected FTE.
·A Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Construction Management, Communications, Marketing, or related field by the start of the appointment. A PhD (or foreign equivalent) in these areas is also acceptable.
·A minimum of six years of experience; the required years of experience can be achieved through a mix of years working in the construction industry and teaching at the university level in construction or related programs.
Desired qualifications include: Experience teaching in higher education; evidence of effective communication, or capability of incorporating information technology into the classroom; evidence of progressively responsible industry experience and knowledge of North American construction practices.
