Miami University’s Communications and Marketing department has been charged with building and maintaining the university’s brand on a local, regional, and national stage. This dynamic and award-winning team is comprised of over 60 marketing and communications professionals and is looking to hire an Associate Director of Marketing and Communications.
Reporting to the Regional Director of Marketing & Communications, the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications collaborates with other administrative and academic offices, committees, and individuals in the design, execution, and revision of strategic internal and external communication plans to grow overall enrollment and increase student success. Leading and assisting with communication efforts, as well as other marketing initiatives, this position provides leadership and creative solutions for developing and implementing data-driven marketing strategies that increase student enrollment and retention.
This position is approved for remote hybrid work: three on campus, two days remote during the academic year and two days on campus, three days remote during the summer. Remote work is not a right; it is a work arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.
Job Description
Duties
Lead strategic communication and marketing efforts to achieve retention goals, working alongside the Regional Director of Enrollment Management and academic success units.
Work with internal stakeholders to develop and execute strategies (including determining ideal communication channels and messaging tactics) for recruiting back stopouts.
Develop written content for a variety of purposes (including brand awareness) and leverage it with various communication tools (including CRM). Meet the demands of various stakeholders (admission, advising, student success) through the design, execution, maintenance, and revision of multiple robust communication flows to prospective, current, returning, and online students throughout the student lifecycle.
Story idea generation (along with the Regional Director of Marketing and Communications and UCM News Team) to strategically identify and pitch impactful stories to appropriate outlets, including media, students, faculty, and alumni. Effectively manage projects to ensure stories are completed on time while maintaining communication with internal stakeholders.
Assist with content development and editing for community outreach newsletters, news articles, and other external communication efforts.
In partnership with the Regional Director of Marketing & Communications, work alongside freelancers and internal stakeholders to support projects related to graphic design, video, photography, web content development, and other marketing initiatives. Serve as liaison between UCM and freelancers.
Serve in a leadership position and will be an approver on projects that do not require the Regional Director of Marketing and Communications to sign off on.
Lead and execute decisions in the Regional Director’s absence. Provide co-leadership with planning and direction of the Regionals Marketing & Communications team.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in higher education, communication, marketing, English, or a relevant field
Five years of marketing experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in higher education, communication, marketing, English, or a a relevant field
Seven years of marketing experience; minimum of three in higher education
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated writing ability for various markets
Knowledge of recruitment strategies and/or marketing and communication strategies
Demonstrated experience using a project management tool (Wrike, Basecamp, Asana)
Experience in integrating technology as part of a larger marketing strategy

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with relational databases such as constituent relationship management (CRM) system (Slate)
Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
Two or more years of experience working with a brand
