The Assistant Director of Marketing is a senior member of the Arts & Sciences Marketing and Communications team. This staff member will be an exceptional individual contributor as well as an effective manager of people and projects. The Assistant Director of Marketing is responsible for executing and overseeing a broad portfolio of marketing and communications activities, including the development and execution of marketing strategies, initiatives, campaigns, and campaign logistics. This position works collaboratively within the A&S Marketing and Communications team, across academic units in Arts & Sciences, and with partner offices across Washington University to consistently articulate and promote the mission and vision of Arts & Sciences.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Develops comprehensive engagement and performance marketing strategies for the School of Arts & Sciences and its individual programs and initiatives. Develops a consistent brand presence across all digital assets and leverages knowledge of market demographics, competitor landscape, environmental trends, and other factors that drive the success of each of the different sub-brands within Arts & Sciences.
Leverages strategic understanding of Arts & Sciences in conjunction with primary and secondary research to increase visibility and engagement for the school and its programs and initiatives.
Develops and executes a variety of campaigns, evaluates their effectiveness, and presents results and reports to senior leadership. Coordinates the creation and design of digital marketing campaigns focused on lead nurturing and yield with a focus on the appropriate marketing mix for various stakeholders across both domestic and international markets.
Gathers and analyzes data from marketing research to suggest improvements for future campaigns.
Specific responsibilities include conceptualizing, acquiring, creating, editing, and delivering marketing content in traditional and innovative ways across multiple channels to internal and external audiences. Also including social media, website, and email marketing. Writes ad copy for various marketing collateral and promotional campaigns.
In conjunction with the College Office, Office of Graduate Studies, and the Admissions Office, executes marketing strategy related to recruitment of prospective students and growing affinity for current students.
In conjunction with Advancement and Alumni Relations, executes marketing strategy related to engaging alumni in volunteer and philanthropic activities.
Ensures that marketing efforts meet the needs of the target audiences while maintaining consistent messages and adherence to university and A&S brand standards.
Acts as a liaison between the communications team and other units on campus.
Stays abreast of current trends and new developments in the industry. Proactively initiates ideas for testing new digital tools.
Provides effective and respected marketing counsel to internal customers across all channels and guides evaluation of the impact of resulting efforts.
Leads and supervises two full-time staff and student interns.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Masterâ™s degree in a related field and five or more years of experience in communications, marketing, writing, and/or editing.
Capable of independent work to manage long-term programmatic goals.
Capable of working well with teams from diverse educational backgrounds (natural scientists, social scientists, engineers, etc.), synthesizing the resulting output into a coherent whole.
Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Bachelorâ™s degree and three years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
$57,300.00 - $97,700.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
