The Assistant Athletic Director for Fan Engagement, Marketing, and Ticketing oversees the operational and strategic aspects for ticketing, merchandise sales, marketing, and fan engagement for the Intercollegiate Athletics department. Develops and implements sales strategies and campaigns to meet and increase revenue goals for ticketing. Actively solicits new and returning ticket holders. Execute marketing and promotion strategies in an effort to enhance the brand of the ICA department, generate revenue, maximize attendance at all sporting events, and promote a positive fan experience. Develop and implement strategic marketing initiatives for all sports to engage the Athletics fan base on campus and in the community. Coordinate efforts with the ticket office to maximize ticket sales and drive revenue for the athletic programs. Develop and execute in-game and event promotions and recognition related to sponsorships and other applicable programming. Serve as liaison between UCSB student groups / organizations (such as Dance, Cheer, Pep Band) and the Athletics Department. Attend ticketed home sports events. Must be knowledgeable of, and ensure compliance with NCAA, Big West Conference, MPFS and University rules, policies and regulations as applicable to the performance of this position.
Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties
Responsible for the development and implementation of creative, progressive, and cost-effective marketing and promotions campaigns to increase community and student engagement, fan attendance and to refine and broaden the local and national profile of the campus athletic events. Envisions and implements methods of presenting to the campus and community a highly visible and favorable image of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Coordinates and works with appropriate staff in the department, including but not limited to the Design and Branding staff, the Associate AD for Strategic Communications & Digital Media, and the Athletic Director. Plan on-campus and off-campus promotional activities and generating marketing collateral to increase the visibility of UC Santa Barbara's athletic programs with students, faculty/staff, fans and the general public. Responsible for the creation, distribution, execution and measurement of written marketing plans. Sets goals for marketing and ticket sales and devises strategies for achieving them in coordination with the Ticket and Merchandise Manager. Prepares regular reports on the effectiveness of these marketing plans. Act as a brand ambassador, aligning the use of UC Santa Barbara and Intercollegiate Athletics Brand Guidelines with all external-facing campaigns and engagement. • Develop comprehensive marketing and promotions campaigns with an emphasis on increasing student and community engagement and fan attendance. Identifies target populations for potential growth of audiences. Initiates and cultivates contacts with UCSB students, faculty, staff, and community groups and works with them to identify opportunities to reach target groups. Oversee and coordinate design, printing and distribution of all printed collateral materials and related digital content and needs. Work collaboratively with the ICA and University Communications and digital strategy teams. Coordinate and support community service and engagement efforts involving ICA participation. Assist with special projects and campaigns, email communications, community service and engagement activities that promote department and campus priorities. Execute comprehensive timelines on an annual basis. Develop a team of and Supervise marketing and promotions interns. 35% Fan Engagement - In Game Promotions
Manage various game functions to include writing PA script; coordinating halftime/in-game performances; developing interactive crowd promotions; oversee video board elements; preparing in-game audio; script writing, coordinating game day presentation with all parties and coordinate emcee at athletic events. Responsible for game day advertising, in game promotional materials, and creating game scripts for the Public Announcer. Create a strong community presence and a fun, family atmosphere at events. Promotes an environment that supports diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Activate in game promotions and sponsorship commitments by working closely with responsible ICA and Campus units. Act as liaison to the pep band Dance and Cheer groups as well as student fan groups. Coordinate G Kids and engagement activities at ICA events. Must attend all home athletic events as identified and agreed upon with department executive leadership and Director of Athletics. 30% Ticket Office and Merchandise Management
Responsibility for and/or oversight of Athletic Department Ticket Office. Maintain a balanced budget for the Ticket Office. Ensure accurate records for financial reporting as well as institutional, conference and NCAA compliance are maintained. Independently responsible for reports and audits with regards to compliance to Conference rules and regulations. Interface with auditors during annual NCAA audits. Accountable for the accuracy of responses and information provided. Direct supervision of the Ticket and Merchandise Manager who oversees the day-to-day operations of the UCSB Athletics Ticket Office. Develop processes and procedures of work flow to ensure daily and seasonal priorities are met. Coordinate and supervise preparation of statistical reports such as individual game reports, season end reports, season ticket stats, sales reports, game attendance records, balancing, reconciling and depositing of daily debits and credits for all ticket sales, credit card transactions on behalf of the entire department, processing and completion of accurate credit card journals, monthly credit card journals to the Athletics Business Office and campus Accounting Office, and the deposit of money with Cashiers Office/all into correct accounts. Attend weekly Senior Staff and other department meetings as appropriate. Maintain memberships in appropriate professional organizations in order to utilize best practices of industry leaders. Assist in organizing bids for hosting NCAA Tournaments. Ensure that institutionally compliant policies and procedures are implemented as they relate to audit, security and control of all cash transactions. As a unit supervisor, provide directions to employees to assure accountability in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. Requires strong cash handling/management skills with ability to put good processes in place. Ensures staff follows defined internal controls for the unit and campus. Responsible for providing quality customer service to all stakeholder groups the Ticket Office serves, including major donors, first-time ticket buyers, the campus, and the local community. Responsible for unit delivering customer-friendly and efficient ticket sales opportunities through in-person, at-venue, phone and on-line sales vehicles.
