POSITION OVERVIEW The Chief Communications, Marketing and Planning Officer reports directly to and partners with the Head of School in the development, organization, and execution of the School’s marketing, positioning, internal and external communications, and strategic planning. The Chief Communication, Marketing and Planning Officer will lead the Communications Team, serve as a thought and visioning partner to the Head of School and Thayer’s Senior Leadership Team, and will work closely across all offices of the school, serving as the standard bearer of the School’s brand and messaging and a key driver of the School’s planning efforts. This individual partners with key stakeholders to ensure that Thayer’s communications and events are executed in a way that maximizes meaningful relationship building and advances the vision and mission of the School. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Capturing the voice and vision of the Head of School and Thayer’s mission/culture/differentiating value proposition in written outreach and communications to Thayer’s constituents, including prospective families, Trustees, current students/families, alumni, donors and neighbors. 2. Creating and implementing comprehensive marketing and communications strategies, plans, and roadmaps to reinforce and elevate Thayer’s leadership, strategic vision, reputation, and more. This includes conducting and interpreting research and leading efforts to enhance Thayer’s presence in local, regional, and national/international media. 3. Overseeing the Communications team and operation; working in collaboration with select communications and strategic/leadership consultants; acting as point person for all crisis communications, media inquiries, and media engagement. 4. Overseeing the messaging, execution, and design of all school publications, advertising and marketing (including print materials such as the Thayer Magazine, school viewbook, and brochures; social media; and Thayer’s website) particularly in support of Admissions and Development, as well as maintaining, updating and enforcing overall brand/school style guidelines. 5. In partnership with the Development and Admissions teams, ensuring all social and programmatic events (leadership, family, alumni, development and admission) are well-planned and executed and imbued with Thayer’s distinct messaging, culture, and high levels of personal engagement. 6. Partnering with the Head of School and other key stakeholders on the development, implementation, and assessment of school-wide strategic initiatives, including a comprehensive strategic plan. 7. Working with the Head of School to manage select meetings and following up with administrators on all action items to ensure they are completed and that communication among offices is streamlined and clear. 8. Developing and maintaining relationships with other Head of School, Communications and Planning offices at peer institutions. Attending industry conferences as directed on behalf of the Head of School and providing briefings to the Board of Trustees and the senior leadership team when appropriate. 9. Working on special projects and tasks as assigned by the Head of School.
QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate must have exceptional writing, organizational, and communication skills, as well as rich and diverse experience in project management. This person must also be collegial and comfortable working across functional disciplines, including regularly collaborating with the Board of Trustees, as well as senior faculty and staff from the admissions, development, business, academic, athletic, and student life focused offices. Additionally, competitive applicants should have: ? A Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) ? At least 7 years’ experience in marketing and communications, preferably in independent schools ? Supervisory/managerial experience, preferably supervising a team in the field of communications, marketing, or related areas ? Strong understanding of new and emerging media and their marketing use ? Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
