We are looking for a strategic, organized, proactive, team-oriented, problem-solving Marketing professional to join our talented Communications team as a Director/Associate Director of Marketing . The level of the position will be determined by a variety of factors including total related experience, years of experience, types of roles held, career progression, etc. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position and is eligible for benefits.
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this position is responsible for developing and implementing Woods Hole Oceanographic Institutions marketing strategies, campaigns, and efforts that strengthen WHOIs brand, increase awareness of and engagement with the Institution, drive lead generation, and maximize revenue from online fundraising and merchandise sales. This individual serves as liaison with outside marketing agencies and contractors and will spearhead ongoing evaluation and reporting on communications and marketing efforts to identify trends and provide actionable insights and ideas. This position also coordinates and supports marketing needs of researchers and administration as appropriate. Remote work option available for this position.

Essential Functions
Provide management oversight for marketing campaigns and initiatives, including development of strong marketing plans and campaign briefs, project management and reporting, budget management, and performance metric reporting.
Manage and oversee the creation and deployment of materials and information used in all marketing campaigns and other marketing managed outreach.
Day-to-day management of digital marketing efforts including social media, email, influencer marketing, and search engine advertising and optimization.
Manage and implement WHOIs paid advertising efforts
Manage and implement lead generation campaigns and efforts
Evaluate and improve conversion points across Communications channels and efforts, including WHOI.edu, to increase leads, gifts, merchandise sales, and other priority actions.
Develop strategy for and lead email marketing efforts, including drip campaigns, A/B testing, and reporting
Collaborate and coordinate with fundraising team on direct mail and digital solicitation efforts
Working closely with WHOIs community engagement team, develop and implement ways to increase visits to WHOIs Discovery and Visitor Centers and increase participation in public events and activities
Serve as liaison with outside marketing agencies, vendors, and contractors
Lead reporting and analysis of communications and marketing efforts. Uses analytics to evaluate the performance of various outreach platforms and provides actionable insights to improve communications, marketing, and retail fundraising efforts
Keep abreast of market research, technology, and trends, and make adjustments to our marketing activities as needed
Collaborate and coordinate with the Editorial and Creative teams on the planning, creating, and optimization of social media posts, email communications, and web promotions.
Collaborate with WHOIs Human Resources and Academic Programs to improve recruitment of staff and students
Collaborate with researchers and administrative groups to improve their marketing efforts
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Other responsibilities as deemed necessary from by your supervisor to serve the Institutions needs
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Marketing, Business or any quantitative field; equivalent professional experience in digital marketing will be considered.
Over 6 years of demonstrated experience in marketing (Director level); 3-5 years related experience (Associate Director level)
Proven experience creating impactful messaging and copy for audience specific efforts and campaigns across print, social media, email and web.
Proven experience of working in and reporting from marketing automation systems
Experience with visual editing software (e.g. Adobe Tools) and experience with web content management systems a plus
Excellent organization and project management skills.
Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and communication skills (written and oral)
Proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines
Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building for the organization
Results-oriented and a passion for creativity
Fundamental understanding of integrated and omni-channel marketing campaigns
Leadership presence in managing, developing, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders and external vendors
Experience working with non-profit is a plus
