The Director of Sales & Marketing is a member of the Kelber Catering management team. This position not only serves as a primary link between the Minneapolis Convention Center Sales & Coordination staff, but also acts as supervisor of the day-to-day operations of the Catering Sales Department. The person in this position must be competent in staff supervision, communication, customer service and have excellent follow-through skills.
This position is also responsible for planning and administrating the food/beverage portion of their own event assignments, which includes developing a menu proposal for the client, event details, contract execution, billing and follow-up contact.
This position is responsible for the Sales Staff scheduling and event assignments, recommendations to the General Manager regarding hiring and disciplinary actions, keeping the General Manager apprised of the on-going activities in the Sales Department, as well as, any potential issues that may need resolution or special attention.
The DOSM will work with our Product Development Team in developing menu proposals, price quotes and service details and with the Minneapolis Convention Center and Meet Minneapolis to secure future bookings, including contracting and price quotes.
This person must be able to quickly prioritize work and be well organized to handle many tasks at once. The DOSM is constantly in contact with clients, staff, and Minneapolis Convention Center employees, therefore, they need to be pleasant, courteous, and helpful at all times.
All activities must be consistent with the objectives, standards, quality, and profitability of both Kelber Catering and the Minneapolis Convention Center and conscientiously adhere to policies as outlined in company memos and handbooks, our Collective Bargaining Agreement, and government regulations throughout all aspects of management activities.
Strong communication and relationship building skills required, including excellent advanced strategic planning with our clients, building a relationship with each one. Clear-concise communications with on-site partners and peers ensuring seamless execution of events.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Organizing and management from initial client contact to post-con.
Generate reports for monthly forecasting; yearly projections and major events calendar.
Attend necessary meetings involving the planning of events.
Primary Contact with assigned clients to coordinate their food and/or beverage needs.
Preparation of menu proposals and price quotes, with guidance from our Product Development Team.
Accurately type and proof function sheets in our client database.
Collect required deposit and signed contracts from client within published deposit schedule.
Accurately detail and issue all food and beverage information in “Function Contract” format to client and staff.
Manage assigned events to ensure that food and beverage details are executed properly.
Timely and accurate communication of all changes/guarantee changes, cancellations and additions to appropriate staff.
Prepare billing for the client; track collection of final payment and any overdue collection.
Direct supervision of assigned events; including those of other catering sales staff and other departments as needed.
Oversee all client files and database.
Review and enforcement of our policies and procedures.
Attend the weekly KCI staff meetings; attendance at the MCC Event Review meeting, rotated weekly among sales staff.
Accurately work with Word, Excel, Outlook, Zoom and have the ability to work in a data base, manage/oversee a website and the company’s social media presence.
Pleasantly and courteously answering the sales department’s phones, following all phone procedures for forwarding lines and answering calls.
Monitor radio, answer calls for other sales staff when they are not available.
Frequently communicate with Meet Minneapolis, industry partners and MCC staff.
Other duties as assigned.

Must be flexible and able to work a varied work schedule including evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays.
This position requires flexibility in working conditions, indoor and outdoor, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, moving equipment, lift and carry items, view items at a distance and up-close.
Ability to navigate a 1.6 million square foot campus, stages, stairways, carpeted, concrete and terrazzo flooring.
Special Conditions of Employment:
Must be flexible as our company mission drives us to exceed our client expectations. A busy show or back-to-back shows can include long days and fall over several days.
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
High School Diploma, four (4) year degree in hospitality, business or culinary, preferred or, equivalent 4-6 years progressive management experience in a high-volume convention center/resort/hotel.
Must have five (5) years Food & Beverage background with sales and menu planning focus preferred.
