The Marketing Coordinator supports the efforts of the Office of Global Marketing and Communications (OGMC) through project management, research, collaboration, and communication. Reporting to Associate Director of Marketing, this position is part of a team that is responsible for creating compelling content that strengthens the University’s reputation while expanding visibility and engaging target audiences. The Marketing Coordinator contributes to developing and implementing OGMC marketing strategies and tactics. This includes supporting the social media team in the development of plans for increasing community engagement, identifying content gaps, and supporting student storytelling opportunities. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with a wide range of marketing functions, including communications, graphic design, advertising, branding, digital marketing, and social media.
Support Strategic Planning and Execution
Contribute to marketing and communication strategies to support key initiatives and programs, with a focus on growing and protecting Northwestern’s reputation.
Administer and maintain existing strategic plans, while participating with area/unit senior staff.
Design and develop presentation materials from concept to completion.
Manage website intake and tracks all requests to ensure they are done in a timely manner.
Organize project planning, coordinates status meetings, and communicates the progress of interdisciplinary projects.
Work closely with cross-functional team members to help manage and optimize planning process and milestones.
Serve as liaison between marketing, senior leadership, creative, and communications teams in the execution of marketing plans.
Social Media Support and Community Coordination
Support social media team with developing and implementing plans for increasing engagement and performance.
Liaise with internal and cross-university partners to develop and enhance social media presence.
Research social trends, identify content gaps, and advise on new social media opportunities.
Work with schools/units to conceptualize campaigns and develop content to engage the campus community and build campus pride, particularly among students.
Assist in providing guidance to schools/units on their social content and strategy.
Analytics and Evaluation
Assist in compiling, organizing, and assessing weekly and monthly metrics, post-performance insights, and developing KPIs.
Administration and Research
Attend meetings with cross-functional teams and provide detailed recaps.
Coordinate and run university-wide Quarterly Branding Workgroup.
Review market trends to recommend future plans to help OGMC meet its goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or similar
2-4 years of experience in marketing
Superior organizational skills and strong multi-tasking abilities
Meticulous attention to detail and ability to prioritize effectively
Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules
Demonstrated experience and interest in social media
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Experience using project management software such as SmartSheet
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Proactive in keeping abreast of rapidly changing digital environment
Comfortable analyzing marketing campaign performance and metrics
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
Familiarity with content management systems (CMS)
Working knowledge of HTML and newsletter tools
Aptitude or interest in developing SEO skills, which include keyword analysis and website optimization
Experience in higher education
