RESPONSIBILITIES: This position leads marketing and communications activities and grant narrative writing for New Beginnings, writing to a variety of audiences. In collaboration with the development team, contributes to agency fund development goals through the creation of unique and compelling pieces. Represent the values and mission of New Beginnings to the community with compassion and integrity.
REPORTS TO: Development Director
HOURS: 40 hours/week, primarily Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend commitments.
COMPENSATION: $55,000 + DOE; medical, dental and vision benefits for employee; life insurance; retirement contribution; generous paid time off; professional development allowance. This is an exempt position.
Develop and manage the annual marketing calendar, creating a persuasive and inspiring series that conveys New Beginnings’ important position in the community and beyond.
Create compelling, inspiring print and electronic newsletters, annual reports, website updates, social media and other content that convey New Beginnings’ and donors’ impact, address agency equity goals and appeal to a variety of audiences, including current donors, new donors, corporate partners, and others.
Create and edit content for all communications, including storyboarding and ensuring a consistent message.
Execute marketing analysis, making recommendations and updating campaigns based on findings. Extract actionable insights to improve campaigns and future marketing.
Set up A/B testing and other studies to optimize content.
Donor Solicitations (30%)
In partnership with the Donor Stewardship and Data Manager and based on the annual donor solicitation plan, develop donor-centric direct mail appeals and online campaigns that drive toward an annual fundraising goal.
Conduct regular cost-benefit, A/B testing and other analyses of annual activities.
Collaborate with Development Team to implement stewardship activities as appropriate.
Act as the agency liaison with external print vendors and graphic designers.
Grant Narratives (25%)
Partner with the Donor Stewardship and Data Manager toward the submission of successful grant proposals by writing grant narratives, letters of intent and cover letters that are both informative and compelling. The Donor Stewardship and Data Manager will research grant opportunities, drive the grant calendar forward, and procure and compile grant application materials.
Department & Agency Support (5%)
Participate in staff meetings, planning days and agency trainings.
Participate in professional fundraising training opportunities.
Provide back-up for administrative office staff: answering phones, receiving visitors, collecting and sorting daily mail.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Director or the Executive Director.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or other related field. Experience may substitute for education.
Experience: At least three (3) years work experience in a related field with an emphasis in communications.
Demonstrated excellent and compelling writing. Ability to write to various audiences with passion, eloquence and efficiency.
An original thinker, able to come up with valuable ideas that drive strategy.
Ability to communicate with graciousness and professionalism with both internal and external stakeholders.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher).
Desktop publishing proficiency preferred.
Detail-oriented. Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
Ability to utilize data and metrics to inform strategy.
Team player with demonstrated leadership skills.
Willingness to learn about and promote equity and social justice within and outside of New Beginnings.
A dependable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license with proof of insurance.
