The Director of Marketing serves as chief planner and strategist for ticket sales, customer acquisition, and communications for a dynamic multidisciplinary performing arts organization. Responsibilities include establishing the positioning and branding of the department and its programs through active direction and implementation of the visual and editorial content of all publications and media. Serving as a member of the departmental leadership team to develop, manage, and execute organizational objectives and initiatives, the Director of Marketing reports to the Executive Director.
Purdue Convocations is the professional performing arts presenter at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The organization presents 30–40 professional productions each season (September through May) in multiple campus and community venues ranging from 400 to 6,000 seats. Bachelor's degree in arts administration, marketing, communications, business, an arts discipline, or a related field.
Six years of experience in a sales-driven marketing and communications role.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially related to the performing arts.
Demonstrated skills in the conception and execution of strategic organizational communications on contemporary digital platforms using current tools, including CRM and database marketing solutions, 2D and time-based design platforms, website development solutions, and digital media management suites. Exceptional proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, internet browsing, and other standard office applications for the Windows or Mac environment is expected.
Demonstrated experience leading and supervising a team.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong ability to work with individuals of various personality types, sensitivities and cultural backgrounds.
Demonstrated capability to work and be productive in alternative work environments using mobile computing solutions.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with regard to production and artist details.
Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations with patience, flexibility, and poise, remaining positive and generous in a wide array of circumstances.
Ability to travel for industry meetings and professional purposes.
Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and able to pass requirements to drive Purdue University vehicles.
Master’s degree in arts administration, marketing, communications, business, an arts discipline, or related field.
Experience working in a performing arts presenting organization.
Experience working in an institution of higher education.
Experience in fundraising processes, activities, and/or donor interaction.
Exposure to financial, legal, and technical considerations involved in working with performing arts/commercial presenting and/or engagements with domestic and international artists.
Experience working with or managing students and/or volunteers.
Appreciation and passion for the arts.
Additional Salary Information: This position involves frequent evening and weekend duties, in addition to standard office hours.
