The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business Career Management Center provides services to the more than 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Dyson School, the School of Hotel Administration, and Johnson Graduate School of Management. The team of professionals associated with this center create and deliver innovative career education and professional development programming for these accredited business programs. In addition to career development initiatives, the center serves as a conduit for employers to connect with this talented group of young professionals.
The Career Management Events and Marketing Coordinator will work independently to coordinate and manage all career-related events and programming including two annual Career Fairs (over 70 employers), Atrium Showcases and Outreach Events, Career Development Programming and Employer Panels and Q&A Sessions. The incumbent will assist in developing and implementing internal and external marketing strategy for all programs and services to students, employers and alumni. This includes writing the weekly student newsletter, Career Connection, social media initiatives, employer and alumni marketing/outreach, via phone and written correspondence. Will assist in writing, editing and publishing marketing materials for all constituents. Also will be responsible for Managing Career Management website updates and the OSS contact management system (C3M).
Key responsibilities of this position consist of:
Responsible for overall coordination and management of three annual Career Days (General Hospitality, Real Estate, and SC Johnson College of Business) for over 70 employers and 600 students.
Manage all logistics of events from planning through implementation stages.
Work with Director and Assistant Director, Alumni Affairs and Centers and Institutes to research, identify develop new employers for consideration. Independently develop written correspondence for employers and students.
Manage Career Day database and employer on-line registration process, working with the Career Management team and coordinating with the SHA IT team.
Work with Statler Hotel and outside vendors to book all aspects of the events, accounts payable and receivable, equipment requests, evening reception, food and beverage and advertising.
Proactively and independently troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise.
Handle confidential information such as credit card payments, salaries, and sensitive issues regarding students and employers.
Track and report on budgets using FoxPro and Elavon.
Exercise independent judgment and decision-making to resolve issues and needs affecting company representatives/alumni and students.
Assist in evaluating overall effectiveness of events via employer and student evaluation process.
Continuously evaluate and assess Career Day systems and procedures and make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies.
Reconcile monthly Career Management and Career Day budgets.
Work with Assistant Dean/Director to develop and execute a Career Management internal and external marketing strategy.
Coordinate and take a lead role in creating/developing/publishing all Career Management marketing to students, school, employers and alumni.
Research best-practices and make recommendations regarding current trends in marketing to students.
Write weekly student newsletter Career Connection using independent decision-making skills to determine content.
Develop and implement social media content (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.), as part of the overall marketing plan.
Assist in marketing Career Management services and programs to employers and alumni via phone and written correspondence.
Assist in writing and updating Career Management web pages.
Coordinate logistics of all Career Management programming including career development workshops for students
Employer Career Panels and Q&A sessions, Atrium Showcase Events (employer and career management office), and co-sponsored events with student organizations.
Assist with developing overall Career Development Programming plan each semester.
Responsible for all logistics including room reservations, handouts, marketing and tracking student attendance in C3M system.
Compile and report on student evaluations.
Other Career Management Support:
Complete other Career Management special projects as needed.
Provide backup for on-campus recruiting support and for posting job on Handshake.
Assist and advise students regarding use of Career Management resources, especially Handshake, 12Twenty, etc.
Office of Student Services Support:
Provide backup to front office reception area.
Support OSS in events and programs including orientation and commencement.
Responsible for making web updates to Career Management site.
Coordinate all aspects of the C3M system (attendance management system) for Cornell University OSS including the following: troubleshoot the use of C3M, run reports, and communicate with SHA and university IT.
Use programs such as Adobe Contribute, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, FileMaker, FoxPro, Microsoft products, and other programs on a regular basis.
Associates Degree with two or more years of experience in event management, career services and/or marketing.
Must be able to independently handle multiple deadlines and priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills incorporating a solid command of English grammar, usage, punctuation and spelling.
Requires a high level of initiative, motivation, independent judgment, decision-making, and commitment to precision and accuracy while maintaining a positive, professional attitude and strong customer-service orientation.
