This position provides high quality direct career counseling services to designated graduate student and alumni populations within an active, student-centered office. Responsible for articulation of a vision, planning and program implementation regarding fundamental career developmental programming and service delivery; coordination of CACS marketing and communications to various constituencies; and contribution to overall office management as part of an active team member.
Programs and services are to reflect institutional mission, vision, and strategic direction; support student and alumni development, retention and the successful achievement of career goals. Be responsive to the student population; be accomplished with attention to high standards, quality, collaboration and fiscal soundness. Participate in the cultivation of employer and alumni relationships.
Provide career advising assistance to graduate students and alumni
Reach out to graduate faculty, student organizations and alumni in creating career appropriate programming, networking opportunities and skills building workshops (both academic and non-academic employment fields).
Meet with and advise graduate students and alumni during regular office hours, at planned events, and throughout the job search process.
Work closely with the Employer Relations team to familiarize graduate students with career related technology (Handshake, AlumniFire, etc.).
Work with Institutional Research to advance efforts to increase response rates to the graduate outcomes survey.
Work closely with Graduate Admissions office in these efforts.
Track graduate interest, participation and progress.
Maintain a strong knowledge base of career advising principles and methodology.
Advise graduate students about career opportunities inside and outside of their designated academic track.
Maintain high-level knowledge of career related issues including but not limited to: resume/cover letter writing, networking, interviewing, internship/job/graduate school search, and participating in extracurricular activities/events/programs.
Support the delivery and ongoing use of skills, personality, and career related assessments.
Lead the CACS marketing workgroup to assist the CACS office with developing a process for submitting and marketing events.
Review all current marketing procedures and update as required. Some examples include; career fair materials, summer letter writing campaigns, office brochures, employer brochure, and presenting outcomes data for both undergraduate and graduate populations.
Review and update the CACS website as needed, with assistance from the Administrative Assistant and Employer Relations staff.
Oversee the effective use of CACS social media accounts and processes.
Assist in developing marketing materials on academic and career related topics that are relevant to assigned majors and programming initiatives.
Assist with collaborative marketing between CACS and partnering offices such as the Office of Campus Activities, Center for Cultural Engagement, Global Education, International Student Scholar Services, various student organizations and academic departments.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of advising resources (web pages, social media, workshops, print materials, etc.)
Present to prospective students, orientation programs, classes, workshops
Maintain high-level presentation skills for both in-person and virtual engagements
Develop and execute purposeful and engaging programs/workshops for targeted audiences of diverse sizes and populations
Outreach Planning with Faculty & Staff
Consult and build strategic relationships within the divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, including but not limited to academic support services, the Dean of Students, and assigned departments and schools
Build programming in conjunction with faculty and student organizations
Establish protocol for regular class presentations and/or programming/events/workshops on career and academic related issues
Utilize a variety of technologies in order to provide the required services including the ability to properly use the information found in:

EAB advising system
Handshake job and internship posting system
Identify, recommend, and utilize new technology as it becomes available
Master’s Degree with a minimum of two (2) years of higher education experience (graduate work, internship experience is accepted) working in a career advising office. Experience must include: offering career advising and development, group career-related presentations and programming. Previous experience providing graduate career advising, with an ability to address students and alumni interested in both academic and non-academic pursuits. Experience with personality and skills assessment instruments preferred. Proven experience in creating marketing materials, planning and implementing marketing plans, and use of marketing platforms and sites.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:
National Certified Counselor certification helpful. Thorough working knowledge of MS Office Suite. Proven background in leading marketing efforts that included the use of technology such as Adobe Suite, Canva, InDesign, video editing software, websites, social media, graphic design, and process planning. Working knowledge of presentation software. Experience working with advising tracking software such as EAB, as well as use of job/internship posting databases such as Symplicity, CSO Research, Handshake or the willingness and ability to learn within three (3) months of hire.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed:
Strong knowledge of the career services profession and advising skills. An ability to utilize key career and academic interest assessments is preferred. Skilled in planning, organizing and effecting events. Able to learn and utilize current ethical and legal standards governing handling of student records, employment processes and advising. Ability to translate knowledge and competencies into action and achievement. Strong service orientation and ability to relate effectively with diverse individuals and groups at all levels of an organization. Ability to work collegially and collaboratively. Demonstrated ability to be productive, deliver high quality work, take initiative, used good judgment and solve problems. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and handle heavy workloads under pressure and within deadlines.
