The Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) department at Berkeley Law focuses on securing philanthropic support to meet the school’s financial objectives and providing life-long engagement opportunities for its graduates. DAR is creating an Advancement Marketing and Communications branch within its team with the mission of building a sophisticated and sustainable marketing and communications program that fosters greater alumni engagement with the law school and increases philanthropic giving. The Associate Director of Advancement Marketing and Communications serves as the technical leader in strategic planning and implementation of marketing and communications initiatives for Berkeley Law’s DAR Department, in support of its mission to increase engagement and secure philanthropic support. This position partners and consults with key stakeholders of DAR and other departments at the law school and the university to create and execute a constituent-centric marketing and communications program based on best-in-practice tactics and in-depth data analysis. Tasks undertaken by the incumbent will include creation of alumni and development marketing materials; creation and implementation of DAR’s annual direct response campaign; oversight of DAR’s website; collection, updates, and analysis of alumni affinity and giving data; expansion of the digital alumni network; and oversight of DAR’s marketing budget.

Creates, develops, implements and evaluates strategic marketing programs, projects, and campaigns including short and long-range strategic planning to increase engagement and fundraising possibilities for Berkeley Law. Consults with the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) and the law school’s Communications department, the Dean’s Office and other internal stakeholders to define the overall strategic, multi-channel marketing and communications plan for the Berkeley Law alumni community. •Formulates the strategic direction and develops content for the law school’s print, digital and telemarketing solicitations efforts utilizing advanced segmentation and A/B tests to refine messaging. •Produces and delivers alumni programming messaging, including reunion weekend materials and alumni event invitations. •Produces and delivers the Dean’s quarterly communications to alumni. •Produces and delivers alumni programming messaging, including reunion weekend materials and alumni event invitations. •Manages the communication efforts to grow the Berkeley Law Alumni Network. •Assists with the production of DAR’s annual report to donors. •Purchases promotional materials including displays, signage, pre-packs, promotional printing, coupons, premiums, art, photography, et cetera. •Plans marketing strategies for law school campaigns, such as the recent “Raise the Bar” campaign. •Creates, plans, produces, and evaluates marketing, advertising and promotional materials to implement marketing strategies and objectives, and to assist with the development and production of fundraising materials (print and digital). •Sets the strategic direction and develops content for DAR’s website. •Manages the marketing program budget; secures and manages vendors (designers, printers, mail houses, photographers, etc.) and ensures that all purchase orders and reimbursement requests comply with university policies. •Liaises with internal departments to coordinate non-DAR marketing campaigns to control the frequency and content of communications target at alumni. •Coordinates alumni data collection to ensure the integrity and security of the information for campaign purposes. •May assist with creating, planning, producing, management and evaluation of events, including law school events, campus-sponsored events, and events sponsored by external resources such as private law firms. •Produces informational material for sales force and media communications designed to reach maximum number of partners/prospects. •Evaluates and modifies promotion or advertising programs. •Develops and successfully implements an effective system of metrics to test the effectiveness of marketing communications. •Partners with database managers to create sophisticated and comprehensive analytical reports. •Conducts benchmarking and best practice studies among peer institutions to maintain a competitive marketing edge among law schools. •Ensures promotion of 'brand' identity and maintains and monitors 'brand' communications to both campus and off-campus agencies. •Consults with campus management, product managers, Alumni Relations departments, and advertising agencies as needed to develop and implement promotional plans and recommend marketing and fundraising philosophy, potential approaches, and media strategies. •Builds and maintains effective relationships with outside (non-campus affiliated) companies and organizations as needed. •Researches and recommends new and innovative methods for generating fundraising revenue. •Additional duties as assigned.•Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, techniques and applications relevant to the field of promotion and advertising. •Advanced skills in developing, designing and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies. •Experience with design and production terminology and processes in order to effectively work with vendors. •Excellent organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Education/Training: •Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related area and/or equivalent experience/training. |
