Stoneleigh-Burnham School, an independent boarding and day school for girls in grades 7-12, in Greenfield, MA seeks a Director of Marketing and Communications, effective August 2019.
The Director of Marketing & Communications (DMC) is responsible for external and internal marketing and communication initiatives of the school, including online presence, inbound and outbound marketing, print and electronic publications, public relations, and advertising. The DMC is responsible for helping create and implement strategic marketing initiatives, including managing projects, vendors, and related budgets. Reporting to the Head of School, the DMC ensures that all communications (including messages and images) reflect the mission, core values, history, and reputation of the school. The DMC works with all members of the school community to ensure consistency of message and strong brand representation in all communications. The position is exempt.
The role requires a keen awareness and understanding of the School’s culture and sensitivity to the perspectives of its key constituencies: faculty, students, alumnae, parents, prospective families, and donors. To keep that understanding current, the DMC works closely with the Directors of Development & Alumnae Relations and Admissions, as well as other department heads of the school. Finally, the DMC manages an in-house staff of 1 1⁄2 FTEs, as well as associated contractors and vendors.
Managing and updating content and images on the school’s website, as well as working on SEO efforts and landing pages for social media.
Managing the process of producing publications, including coordination of editorial needs, ensuring efficient review and approval of work, submission to vendors and proper distribution, if applicable.
Designing all print materials ensuring accurate logo and photo usage and adherence to brand standards.
Overseeing the production of materials, including coordination with outside vendors (web hosts, photographers, printers, mail services), quality control, compliance to school and industry standards, and expense control.
Creating and managing a multifaceted budget for the office.
Writing articles, press releases, and news for print and electronic communications including the development of theme and story ideas, research, interviews, editing, and proofreading.
Responsibility for backup administrator phone once every eight days when school is in session.
Qualifications for the position:
At minimum, a bachelor’s degree
At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in an educational setting
Demonstrated leadership and management capacity
Experience developing, analyzing, and managing a budget
Interest in building a strong online presence and helping create improved parent outreach
Appreciation for the value of an all-girls’ education
Ability to work well in a close community
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for school events
Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing for a wide variety of purposes including: magazine; newsletters; website; press releases; social media; admissions and development campaigns; speeches; and advertising copy
