The Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing will have responsibility of leading and managing the marketing and promotional efforts of UTEP Athletics, to include developing and implementing extensive marketing and promotional strategies in order to generate and increase community, fan and student interest, excitement, and loyalty toward UTEP Athletics. The Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing will also be responsible for assisting in revenue generation by developing and implementing marketing and promotional plans designed to increase attendance and create an optimal gameday environment for fans and students. The Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Promotions will be an integral member of the athletic department’s senior staff and external relations teams, will report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and External Relations, and will supervise one Director of Marketing, one Marketing Graduate Assistant, and a team of available student volunteers. The incumbent must understand and apply complex marketing & promotional campaigns, be able to increase attendance at athletic events, optimize the use of social media for marketing and promotional purposes, create and execute specific campaigns to increase exposure and attendance for UTEP’s sport programs, and lead in the development of promotional materials and advertisements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing is expected to be a high-performing marketing and promotional position.
Develop and execute creative and innovative marketing and promotional campaigns to drive affinity, attendance and revenue for UTEP sports programs. Particular effort and attention will be dedicated toward marketing and promoting football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball programs.
Create, execute and analyze marketing and promotional plans.
Develop promotional materials and advertisements for all sport programs and meet all established deadlines for concept, design, creation and distribution of marketing materials and advertisements.
Lead the creation of email and social media content to increase interest, excitement and loyalty for UTEP sport programs.
Coordinate all marketing and promotional efforts with the athletic department’s third-party multimedia rights partner, season ticket office, video production and graphic design department, broadcasting and media relations staff in order to maximize ticket sales and corporate partnership revenue, including fulfillment of in-game corporate sponsor initiatives.
Ensure proper planning and execution of all game day promotional activities, game day scripting, organizing presentations and groups, game day contests and entertainment, and managing in-game elements.
Develop and implement strategic marketing and promotion initiatives to enhance UTEP Athletics’ presence in the greater El Paso community in order to further engage current and potential UTEP fans. Particular attention will also need to be paid to further developing the Miner Kids Club and the UTEP Student Miner Maniacs programs.
Collaborate with the multimedia rights partner staff to increase media engagement through unique partnership opportunities with area corporations and advertisers.
Oversee marketing and promotions staff, including the hiring, scheduling, training and evaluation of staff members.
Direct the operation and administration of the marketing and promotions staff:
Development of marketing and promotional action plans and strategic goal setting.
Directs all marketing and promotional efforts and timing of these efforts.
Researches marketing/promotional trends and opportunities, and follows through on these opportunities.
Develops, leads and assists marketing and promotions staff with promotional campaign opportunities.
Trains all marketing and promotions staff to be efficient, effective and successful.
Management of all Marketing customer service
Understand the needs of internal and external customers, making a special effort to be responsive in meeting their needs and it building fan and customer satisfaction.
The Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing is responsible for ensuring his/her staff provides outstanding customer service related to marketing and promotions, fan engagement, and game environment.
Scheduling of staff
Manage the scheduling of marketing staff so proper levels of staffing are achieved and the staffing budget is managed appropriately. Schedule will frequently include work to be done at night and on weekends.
Other duties as assigned
On occasion, the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing is expected to assist with duties that are not directly related to marketing and promotions. These duties may require work on nights and weekends.
Minimum of three (3) years successful marketing and/or promotional experience.
Familiarity with and a strong passion for collegiate sports.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact comfortably and effectively with both internal and external clients at all levels of the organization.
Results-oriented approach and proven ability to meet established deadlines.
Strong time-management skills and the ability to multi-task and manage a dual role requiring both management of a staff and being an individual job performer.
?Able to lead persuasively, train marketing and promotions staff for effective performance, and create a strong working environment within the organization.
Able to successfully collaborate with others in the organization, especially the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development & External Relations and university contacts to achieve business goals.
Able to organize priorities for the benefit of the overall organization. For example, the budget and resources dedicated to marketing must be effectively managed.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays in accordance with competition and event schedules.
Basic proficiency with computers and MS Office programs.
Five (5) or more years of experience working in athletics marketing.
Demonstrated results in marketing tied to attendance building, ticket campaigns and successful marketing and promotion of events.
Experience in marketing collegiate and/or professional athletic programs.
