If so, the American Sociological Association (ASA) invites you to apply to become our new Membership and Marketing Manager. This position provides the opportunity to combine knowledge of the academy, strong writing skills, and creativity and innovation with a service orientation and robust database management skills. The Membership and Marketing Manager will be charged with cultivating, engaging, and supporting a community of sociologists.
ASA has a membership of almost 12,000 sociologists who are scholars, teachers, and practitioners. Its mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a discipline and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. Among many other activities, ASA publishes 14 journals and offers a large annual meeting. ASA’s office is in Washington, D.C.
Support strategic planning around membership marketing, outreach, and membership value/benefits packages.
Work closely with the Deputy Director, the academic and professional affairs team and the communications team, as well as other key staff, to develop and produce member recruitment, retention and reclamation campaigns.
Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure integrated service and value to members.
Manage all routine membership join and renewal processes.
Manage the membership database/association management system (NOAH) on a daily basis to ensure accurate and secure data.
Collect, track, analyze and report membership data.
Respond to requests for information and assistance from current and potential members via phone and email.
Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Director.
Reporting Structure: The Membership and Marketing Manager reports to the Deputy Director.

Strong knowledge of the context and support needs of professionals doing scholarly work in academic and non-academic settings; advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience with database software, preferably AMS experience optimal. Willingness and capacity to learn database management and analytics essential.
Exemplary writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; strong analytical reasoning ability; good attention to detail.
Strong work ethic; ability to respond quickly to time-sensitive requests from members.
Maturity and organizational savvy; ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams; excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel to the annual meeting for one week in August.
