Summary: The Marketing and Communications Manager for Housing and Residence Life (HRL) and Division of Student Services (DSS) is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing marketing and communication strategies that promote awareness of on-campus housing and related programs. As a member of the HRL team, this manager assumes a leadership role in coordinating marketing efforts to promote the Grand Valley State University HRL brand to incoming first year and returning students. The Marketing and Communications Manager will ensure programs and services contribute to overall student success for residential students and are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of GVSU, HRL, and DSS.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field.
Two years of professional work experience in related field.
Experience planning, organizing, staffing, and directing special events.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work experience in higher education with an understanding of student development.
Design experience with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Strong time management skills and excellent attention to detail.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions:
Provide leadership for planning, managing, executing, and assessing all advertising, public relations, communications, and marketing plans for the HRL and DSS brands.
Manage HRL print and digital marketing efforts, including web management, design, and social media.
Coordinate communication and marketing efforts related to on-campus housing occupancy processes.
Oversee HRL and DSS efforts related to orientation program events.
Support other HRL functions, including student and professional staff recruitment and department and university events.
Serve as liaison with Institutional Marketing and Admissions.
Collaborate with partners in the Division of Student Services and other auxiliary services, including: Campus Dining, Campus Health Center, Campus Recreation, and Children’s Enrichment Center.
Promote university marketing partnerships that will enhance overall student success.
Hire and supervise assigned staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities – Non-Essential Functions:
Support HRL and DSS assessment of programs and services.
Participate in appropriate department, division, and university committees.
