The Communications Specialist III position will be responsible for the image and brand identity of the department through the promotion of the department's facilities, programs, and services which is facilitated via the production of marketing materials and dissemination of department information through various media options to generate interest in the University community, as well as create a positive image for both Recreation Services and Iowa State University. The incumbent will implement a marketing plan, marketing budget, and will prepare a marketing strategy and tactics to execute the goals, including but not limited to: copy writing; design and production of print material; management of the department website; social media strategy; event coordination; promotional product inventory; advertising; and partnership with other campus departments. Additionally, will coordinate department promotional and special events, on and off campus information fairs, orientations, speaking engagements, and the design/purchasing of promotional items. The incumbent will be responsible for media relations, including regular communication with students and external reporters; will serve as the Public Information Officer for the department in coordination with University Relations, and serve as the communication adviser to the Senior Leadership Team . The Communication Specialist III will recruit, train, and supervise student marketing employees to include a graduate assistant.
The successful candidate will be proficient in a variety of graphic design programs, web design programs as well as adept at photography. This candidate will exhibit attention to detail, initiative, organizational skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Marketing or relevant field of study.
Experience in providing marketing services for a collegiate recreation department of similar size and/or auxiliary units on a collegiate campus of similar size.
Experience supervising employees.
Experience developing sponsorship packages as a source of long-term revenue generating opportunities and fiscal management
