| The Optical Society (OSA) is seeking a Deputy Senior Director, Membership &Marketing to work primarily with the Meetings, Membership, Industry and Outreach teams and other staff cross-departmentally within OSA to effectively communicate OSA’s event, membership, and other marketing messages in a well-timed and well-targeted manner to external constituents (members, customers and prospects) of OSA and OSA owned and co-owned products and programs. This position will develop and supervise an increasingly strategic membership marketing team; and will play a key management role within the meetings marketing team. This position will also create, follow, manage and update systems and processes to maximize targeted, strategic marketing efforts association-wide. The Deputy Senior Director of Membership & Marketing will increase the capacity of the industry relations marketing team (including meetings and membership) to deliver and advance OSA’s position with new and existing programs; and products within existing and new markets. |
1. Identifies marketplace opportunities and prospects and works with industry sales and marketing teams to develop and engage new prospective customers. 2. Ensures the effective management of marketing budgets to maximize financial resources towards the achievement of organizational branding and promotional objectives. 3. Develops and uses measurement systems to monitor and report on program trajectories and support strategic marketing decisions. 4. Oversees program measurement systems including relevant software, processes and staff training. 5. Integrates strategic marketing and marcom functions with program elements to ensure marketplace impact. 6. Oversees strategic marketing efforts including strategic elements of each program’s marketing plan and OSA’s marketing approach to new markets. 7. Institutes project management practices and procedures. 8. Works cross-departmentally to ensure effective design and implementation of market research and surveys to assess customer needs and program effectiveness. 9. Manages some vendor relationships.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Four-year college degree; MBA preferred 2. 10+ years experience in senior level association Membership, Marketing and/or Optics/Photonics Industry Marketing 3. 8+ years experience directly managing staff spanning entry level to middle management. 4. Extensive experience managing external vendors for design, copy-writing and email functions 5. Experience in managing research projects from early concept phase to execution/results analysis. 6. Strong knowledge and experience in implementation of business systems, practices and procedures (Six Sigma, etc.). 7. Experience in applying measurement systems to monitor programs. 8. Knowledge of optics, photonics or other high-tech industries preferred. 9. Prior experience in an ad or marketing agency – stand-alone or a corporate in house agency. 10. Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. 11. Strong focus on team-building and hands-on management. 12. Advanced level knowledge in Excel and PowerPoint preferred. 13. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills. 14. Excellent analytical ability. 15. Ability to lead both marketing strategy and marcom functions. 16. Ability to think and act strategically to benefit the organization. 17. Effective at Senior levels in fast paced, innovative, and collaborative organizations. 18. Business savvy and team orientation. 19. Strategic thinker, flexible problem solver and great listener.
