Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSE The Manager, Athletics Marketing reports to the Chief of Staff, Athletics and provides oversight and supervision of the marketing activities of the Athletic Department. Coordinates marketing plans, promotional plans and athletic events to increase awareness and attendance at games. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDevelop and implement marketing and promotional plans to increase season ticket holder base for football, men's and women's basketball and woman's volleyball. Promote and market the Wayne State University Athletics booster club to increase membership.Develop and implement marketing strategies to generate interest in Wayne State University Athletics. Identify and cultivate new sponsors, manage social media marketing efforts and coordinate in game promotions at athletic events.Develop strategies to engage former Wayne State University athletes throughout the country. Coordinate with University Development and Alumni Affairs to identify alumni and implement effective promotions. Supervise assigned professional and part time support staff. Hire, discipline, evaluate and develop employees.Manage marketing budget. Provide projections, monitor and approve expendituresAssist with the development of marketing initiatives for the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center. Prepare brochures and other promotional materials.Promote Athletic Department presence at university events i.e., New Student and Parent Orientation, Welcome Back Week, Convocation and Student Organization Day. Assist sponsors in identifying effective and affordable media (radio, television marque, video boards, and social media) to increase interest and awareness at athletic events.Coordinate promotions with the Dean of Students at student and athletic events. Arrange for giveaways Ensure compliance with university, GLIAC and NCAA policies and procedures as they pertain to marketing and promotions. Manage marketing budget. Provide projections, monitor and approve expenditures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Bachelor's degreeAdditional Education Information: Bachelor's degree in marketing or closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Experienced At least 2 years' experience in marketing, promotions and coordinating special events, preferably at a college or university. At least 2 years writing marketing and promotional plans. Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft, PowerPoint or similar software.Prior supervisory experience preferred.Ability to work nights and weekends. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREDBusiness Knowledge: Knowledge of NCAA and GLIAC regulations pertaining to marketing and promotions.Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with others in writing or verbally.Sales Skills: Strong sales skills including product knowledge, rapport building, closing techniques and post-sale relationship management.Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations.Organization Skills: Keen attention to detail, ability to establish and meet deadlines, ability to work under pressure and to function independently.
