The Director of Marketing will orchestrate creative traditional and digital marketing initiatives for approximately new 160 hardcover titles per year; work with the Senior Publicists to manage annual marketing budget; interface with Harvard U. Press sales team on both frontlist and backlist promotions; actively participate in the acquisitions process; mentor and lead the junior members of our marketing team; and create and oversee extensive backlist marketing initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and oversee title-by-title marketing campaigns for Harvard U. Press.
Develop and oversee academic and trade marketing strategy.
Develop and implement brand-building strategies in conjunction with Harvard U. Press Director and sales.
Supervise marketing and publicity staff.
Oversee process for in-house materials and fact sheets for sales meetings, Marketing/Planning, and Sales Conference.
Oversee creation of two seasonal catalogs and two academic subject catalogs.
Review and provide feedback on proposals in acquisitions meetings.
Provide constructive feedback on book covers.
Interact with sales on all promotions, including in-store and electronic price promotions.
Work with special sales to develop organizational sales opportunities as well as author events.
Oversee Harvard U. Press website, including regular updates.
Manage Harvard U. Press's presence at trade and regional shows and academic conferences. Interact in formal meetings, such as ed com, launch and list meetings, and on an individual basis with the other members of the sales and editorial departments, both in London and the US, to discuss marketing and publicity strategies for HUP titles and to help select and position books to optimize review attention.
Develop strategic plan for ongoing marketing of HUP's backlist, including reissues, metadata, AMS and instore promotions.
Participate in inventory and first print decisions.
Develop advertising plans and copy for relevant titles.

Minimum 8 years of book marketing experience, ideally with expertise in backlist and academic marketing
Candidates should be:
