The Director of Marketing and Communications is charged with providing vision and leadership for strategic internal and external communications for UCI Applied Innovation. The Director reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and Director of External Relations and provides comprehensive, integrated and strategic communications to raise the visibility and awareness of the impact of the innovative and entrepreneurial contributions UCI makes as well as the status and vitality of the regional innovation ecosystem. The Director aligns public relations, marketing, communications and media relations of Applied Innovation.The incumbent demonstrates intellectual agility, strong intuition, objectivity, substantive advisory capabilities and excellent judgement. The Director provides bold, business savvy, strategic counsel and advice in the area of marketing and communications to the UCI Applied Innovation senior staff. The position carries significant organizational responsibility and authority for framing positive public perception of UCI Applied Innovation as a recognized catalyst in the Orange County entrepreneurial/Innovation ecosystem. This position works collaboratively with the Office of the Strategic Communications and Public Affairs on communications issues that span the UC system to develop initiatives to advance Applied Innovation strategic business priorities with regards to positioning, messages and initiatives, particularly around core strategic initiatives such as connections between UCI and industry, start-ups, and becoming a world-class entrepreneurial ecosystem.Key responsibilities include:Managing UCI Applied Innovation brand and reputation.Ensure the campus and public views the organization favorably.Lead strong, vision-focused, service-oriented team of professionals across all aspects of media, internal and external communications, multi-cultural outreach, web design and communications and marketingDetermine communications strategy and execute programs to deliver communications objectives throughout the organization, including message development, communication and announcement strategies.Develop and monitor the UCI Applied Innovation marketing program's annual objectives, performance measures, and budgetsDevelop branding initiatives, internal communications and external media relations.Manage media relations and maximize media opportunities, develop strong relationships with media reps.Develop publications such as newsletters, releases, email announcements, planned publications, on-line, intranet, video, special projects and assignments.Create rich and creative content that is optimized for search engines.Select, develop and maintain key analytics profile and marketing/automation, communication and contact tool suite.The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence.
