Tulane University invites inquiries, nominations and applications for Vice President for University Communications and Marketing. The new vice president will serve as a vital member of the university’s administrative team and will provide vision, innovation and bold leadership in order to advance the profile and brand of Tulane. The position offers an experienced, forward-thinking communicator the opportunity to craft an ambitious agenda that leverages Tulane’s current strengths and tackle the challenges of a constantly changing communications and marketing environment.
Reporting to and working closely with Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Institutional Effectiveness Richard A. Matasar, the vice president will direct an operation previously led by Debbie Grant. During her tenure, Grant modernized and streamlined communications efforts and paved the way for the future success of the department. She will retire from the role in March 2018 after 35 years of service.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong creative instinct and an entrepreneurial spirit that will help create a bolder future for Tulane. The candidate should foster internal and external collaborative partnerships and bring a rich diversity of voices, expertise and perspectives to showcase Tulane’s desire to marshal its many resources to improve the human condition. The vice president of communications and marketing must lead in implementing proactive communications strategies that integrate institutional and departmental goals to create a bold vision of a new Tulane.
The new vice president will join Tulane’s team at an ideal time to make a personal and lasting impact on the university’s future. Since the arrival of President Michael A. Fitts in July 2014, the university has embraced a new direction from a strong leadership team that has successfully implemented a strategic plan, brought financial health to the university, executed a comprehensive branding initiative and launched a major fundraising campaign.

As a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) and a Carnegie R1 research institution, the university generated $140 million in research grant support last year alone.
