The Sr. Manager, Marketing is responsible for assessing the business environment to identify opportunities across all markets, then applying these opportunities to over-arching strategic marketing messaging development that supports the goals of the business. With a focus on creating the Cox Media brand, this position is responsible for projects and initiatives that use innovative marketing communications strategies to grow the demand for our products and services.
Direct reports may include: Marketing Manager, Marketing Specialist(s), Graphic Designer, and individual contributor level marketing team member(s).
Specific supervisory responsibilities of this position are to direct and oversee cohesive strategies and development of marketing team, in areas of both internal and external communications.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the marketing function for any/all products.
Effectively takes advantage of marketing opportunities through development and management of an effective sales and marketing organization; and partnering effectively with other groups within the company to deliver timely customer service.
Plans and develops consumer acquisition programs including: setting and managing to budget, structuring the offer, developing communications strategies, and directing the marketing campaigns in all forms of media.
Measures and evaluates acquisition and retention program effectiveness and provides feedback and reporting to marketing team and senior management to ensure optimal client growth and maximize revenues.
Performs ongoing analysis of performance, including tracking and analyzing marketing promotions, weekly monitoring and report of actual performance to budget and forecasts.
Develops and implements programs designed to increase employee and consumer knowledge about the product line. Coordinates efforts with all product managers on marketing programs, budgets and calendars for the most effective use of marketing resources.
Cultivates positive relationships with other divisions and develops joint promotional and advertising efforts where practical.
Achieves product and marketing plan milestones with effective project management skills including program metrics, analysis and reporting to continually improve process.
Strategic & Tactical Planning
Uses analytics and market knowledge to design, implement, and facilitate the execution of an annual marketing plan for Cox Media that considers the current business environment, corporate-field relationship, and financial goals of the organization, ensuring strategic initiatives are created and executed to achieve the organization’s budgeted revenue.
Develops strategy based on knowledge of timeline, scope and resources for key marketing areas including traditional media, social media, online advertising, content marketing, and other one-to-many marketing tactics.
Translates marketing team objectives and strategies to development of the Cox Media brand, facilitating business unit growth.
Develops back end system requirements and processes to manage the metrics behind over-arching campaigns, to make recommendations on whether to maintain, grow, reduce or stop investments in each marketing message. And manage business and execution plans behind such decisions.
Assists the marketing team in meeting its objectives, living the values and culture of Cox and practicing company policies.
Collaborates with Lead & Demand Generation, teams, Product Portfolio team, Shared Services team, Sales, and various field teams to build strategy for targeted ad solicitation campaigns to support client acquisition and new business development.
Brings together positioning of core and digital products to ensure the brand is represented as one portfolio in the marketplace.
Develop and maintain leading business relationships internally and externally with partners, peers, clients and vendors to understand market strategies and articulate our needs for products and services and facilitate company goals.
Manages and hires staff in order to develop a marketing team which is competent, strategically astute, dedicated and efficient.
Sets direction for and leads a team that has a marketing strategy knowledge base (both traditional and social media marketing) as well as a comprehensive understanding of how corporate marketing strategies translate to various sales channels to achieve the organization’s financial objectives.
Supervises and conducts annual reviews for direct reports of marketing staff, analyzing productivity and making adjustments in order to maximize results. Takes immediate action to improve performance level, as necessary.
Make staffing and hiring decisions within marketing department.
Coaches and develops managers and individual contributors to continuously improve individual expertise and team performance and capability.
Leads departmental meetings to communicate progress towards goals and changes in direction, policies, expectations, processes and standards.
Contributes to development of an operating plan and budget; generally responsible for managing or coordinating expenses within a budget or part of a larger budget; may manage or coordinate a project budget or multiple project budgets.
Partners with Supply Chain to evaluate outside vendors who may have solutions to company problems and needs. Participates in the negotiation and execution of contracts, including SLA’s with these vendors, and support other departments during management.
Manages various relationships with external agencies, vendors, and other suppliers to ensure optimization of company resources.
Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as assigned.
A minimum of 7 - 10 years experience in related field (marketing, communications, PR); media and cable television experience a strong plus.
Bachelors degree in marketing (or similar) required. MBA preferred.
Experience with social media and internet advertising strategies.
Strong ability to work across departmental boundaries to drive toward common goals.
Proven ability to develop detailed work plans and execute under pressure. Must be able to work independently and deliver measurable results.

PC skills required, including strong working knowledge of all MS products. Viso and Project a plus.
