As our Director of Marketing and Communications, you will report directly to our E.D. and provide leadership for developing and implementing strategic and tactical marketing and communications plans for all products, services, publications, public affairs, and our Web site. Additionally, you will supervise two direct reports. Primary duties include but are not limited to:
Marketing initiatives to grow non-dues revenue streams relative to publications, journal subscriptions, annual convention and exposition, and other professional development activities
Organizational branding through promotional materials and activities. Direction of integrated marketing and media functions in support of association initiatives, products and services
Strategic communications initiatives that advance the Council’s mission, including writing, developing and editing communication plans, press releases, articles, promotional copy, and other materials that articulate the Council’s positions, policies and activities
Oversight of the direction of activities related to the acquisition and development of non-periodical publications, and overseas production and development of CEC’s two journals: Exceptional Children and Teaching Exceptional Children
Liaison with the media on behalf of CEC, educating and fostering spokespersons for the association
Management of web site functionality, maintenance and content, ensuring Web site is user friendly and content remains relevant, critical and timely. Engagement of CEC staff, member, and key stakeholder involvement through use of social networking
Oversight of writing, editing and production of weekly e-newsletter and CEC’s blogs ensuring information is delivered in a timely fashion
Programs to enhance CEC’s image in the community and professional arena, including CEC’s professional and student awards programs, special events, and multimedia productions
Along with a high degree of initiative, a collaborative work style and keen business acumen, you’ll need these qualifications:
7+ years of experience in marketing and communications or related area; knowledge of education, special education, and/or disability issues a plus
Bachelor’s degree in business or similar, Master’s degree highly preferred
Proven successful strategic communications track record
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including a demonstrated ability to speak in public effectively
Practical, managerial knowledge of Web site best practice, design and functionality
Demonstrated ability in supervising staff
Experience developing and producing newsletters
Ability to flexibly respond to changing needs and priorities
